Geotechnical Surveys

16 June 2010

Eneco have commenced geophysical surveying of the Zone and potential offshore cable routes to collect data to support the Zone Appraisal process and preliminary engineering planning.  The survey includes multibeam and sidescan coverage (low and high frequency) to depict seabed features, seabed classification and seabed debris; Ultra high resolution seismic survey to determine the nature of the surface layers of the seabed, informing the suitability for cable installation; Magnetometer survey to identify major items of debris, wreck or changes in near surface bedrock.  Surveys are being undertaken by the contractor EMU using their vessels RV Discovery and the Victor Henson and will complete mid July 2010 subject to weather.

A contract has been awarded to Geotechnical Contractor Fugro to undertaken Site Investigation works within the zone.  Ground data obtained will to contribute to the Zone Appraisal and assist preliminary engineering design. The scope includes drilling up to 6 boreholes within the zone and vibro-cores along potential cable routes.  Work commences in late July following completion of the Geophysical surveys.
