Shortlist announced for Name the Wind Park competition
16 February 2011
A shortlist of ten names suggested by the public for a proposed offshore wind park has been annouced by Eneco.
After receiving almost 100 suggestions for the wind park, which will be located off the Hampshire and Dorset coasts and to the west of the Isle of Wight, an independent Eneco team based in the Netherlands shortlisted ten names that are reflective of the local area.
Eneco is now asking the general public to vote for their favourite name by emailing [email protected], calling on free phone 0800 848 8464, writing to the address below*, or tweeting it to the Eneco UK Twitter account (@EnecoUK). The deadline for votes is 22 March 2011.
The winning name, which will be announced by 31 March 2011, will not only be given to the wind park throughout the development period and beyond, but a luxury long weekend break to Rotterdam, the home of Eneco, plus spending money is also up for grabs. The nine runners-up will also receive a prize of £100.
Chris Sherrington, Project Director, Eneco UK said: “We feel very strongly that the public should be closely involved in the potential development of the offshore wind park right from the beginning. For us, it is vital that the project has a local flavour, so handing over the task of naming the wind park to the general public seemed the natural thing to do.”
