Eneco invites public feedback on offshore wind park substation
17 November 2011
Two public exhibitions are to be held at West Moors to help the public find out more information about two proposed sites for a new onshore substation to support the proposed Navitus Bay Wind Park off the Dorset and Hampshire coasts and to the west of the Isle of Wight.
Eneco will be providing information about the onshore infrastructure of the project, as well as displaying montages showing what the development may look like. The public will be given the opportunity to express a preference for one of the two substation sites, as well as talking with members of the development team to raise any questions or ideas about the onshore plans.
The proposed Navitus Bay Wind Park will have a capacity of up to 1200MW, generating power for between 615,000 and 820,000 homes each year. An onshore substation is needed to transform the electrical power generated by the offshore wind park to the voltage of the National Grid.
The proposed substation sites near Mannington, north of Ferndown, were selected based on a detailed appraisal of location options for Navitus Bay, taking into account environmental, visual and engineering considerations.
Chris Sherrington, Project Director said: “The public exhibitions will provide a great opportunity to learn more about the onshore connection proposals, as well as more general information about Navitus Bay. It will also give them the chance to provide feedback on the substation options, which will enable us to consider the most suitable substation site.”
The public exhibitions are due to be held at the West Moors Pavilion in Fryer Field off Bond Avenue in West Moors on:
- Friday 18th November – 2pm to 8pm
- Saturday 19th November – 10am – 4pm
The final design of Navitus Bay Wind Park, both onshore and offshore, will be determined only after comprehensive consultation with the public and relevant organisations. Formal consultation on the offshore aspects of the project is set to take place in first quarter 2012, with public exhibitions across Dorset, Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight.
If people are unable to attend the public exhibitions then information boards from the events will be able to view on the Navitus Bay website www.navitusbaywindpark.co.uk
