Areas of interest

The South Coast is a popular region for divers, both recreational and professional. As part of Navitus Bay’s Environmental Impact Assessment, it is looking closely at the range of activities in this region. It is holding discussions with the relevant clubs and vessel operators to understand whether they will be affected by the proposed wind park and how this can be properly mitigated.

/sites/default/files/users/shared/notice_to_mariner_2015-01-29.pdfThis page will provide essential, up to date information and advice to those navigating within Navitus Bay’s area. Subjects will include notification of works and events which may impact on navigation and notification of new and updated rules and regulations for navigation.

Navitus Bay has undertaken extensive marine traffic surveys and analysis of the shipping lanes in the Solent to monitor the movement of vessels in and around the proposed offshore development area. This data has been used in conjunction with other baseline data sets to assess navigational safety in proximity to the proposed wind park.

Navitus Bay recognises the importance of the coastal area to tourism and is in ongoing discussions with statutory consultees, including tourism experts within each of the Local Authorities along the coast, as well as a number of local tourism management boards.

To understand the existing environment at its proposed offshore wind park, cable corridor and the onshore substation, Navitus Bay gathered data from a wide range of sources. These include statutory bodies, academic organisations, local authorities, conservation and other relevant interest groups. This knowledge has been further enhanced and supplemented through comprehensive field-based surveys, targeting both the project site and surroundings areas.
