Turbine Area Mitigation Option

Mike Unsworth, Navitus Bay Project Director:

“We are pleased that the Planning Inspectorate has agreed to consider our alternative option for fewer turbines, further offshore, as part of our original planning application. While this proposal provides a second option for consideration in that process, it does not replace our original proposal.

The 970MW scheme will continue to be examined as part of the ongoing planning process and the overall timings of that process remain unchanged.

“Ultimately, it will be for the Secretary of State to decide which option strikes the right balance in terms of potential benefits and impacts. We believe that the original application, as well as the alternative option, would both make an important contribution to the local economy and to the UK’s renewable energy and carbon reduction targets. In the case of the original proposal, that amounts to a £1.62 billion boost to the local economy over the project’s life time and the creation of a minimum of 1,700 jobs.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with the Planning Inspectorate, local residents, and other interested parties as we take forward our application. This includes supporting the hearing specifically on the alternative option.”
